POLICIES

  General Policies

As a courtesy to all library users cell phone use in the library is limited to urgent or emergency situations and is allowed only in the foyer. Patrons accompanying children may use a cell phone in the Children's Room.

The Trustees have voted a new policy regarding the leaving of minor children in the library at closing time. We have had instances when the staff has had to wait outside with a child for up to one half hour because the parent wasn’t here. This had made the child very nervous as there was nobody at their home when we called. In the future, if any child under age 16 is here at closing time we will call the Wrentham Police Department who will come to the library and take whatever action they feel is appropriate. Please realize that children are very concerned when their ride does not come at the appointed time.

We have had many complaints about the noise level in the library. Parents are responsible for the supervision and behavior of their children. No running or yelling is permitted. Please be aware that adults are disturbed by this behavior. In addition we would like to remind parents that it is your responsibility to be sure your children pick up any toys - blocks, puzzles, legos, etc. that they play with. The Library Staff and Custodians are not expected to clean up toys. ALSO children under age 10 are not allowed to be left unattended in the Childrens Room.

  Library Card Policies

Residents may apply for a Fiske Library Card (provided they do not already have a card at another SAILS library) at the Circulation Desk. Identification (ie driver's license) is required in order to receive a card. A patron must have a valid library card with them to borrow materials. Lost cards will be replaced one time at no cost. Successive replacements will be $1, $2, $3, etc.

The Board of Library Trustees has instituted a policy that will charge out of state patrons $55 per year for a SAILS card. The card entitles the patron to the full services of Fiske Library and the network. There will be no additional assessment for any other family members. Massachusetts libraries receive no compensation from Rhode Island or any other states for providing service to their residents. The policy was effective January 1, 2009.

YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO USE ANOTHER PERSON’S CARD WHEN BORROWING ITEMS OR SIGNING UP FOR THE COMPUTER  ***NO EXCEPTIONS***

Library materials may be renewed online or by calling the Circulation Desk at (508) 384-5440. BE AWARE HOWEVER -- If you have more than 7 overdue items OR owe $10.00 or more in fines/bills you will be unable to place a hold or renew books. Videocassettes may be renewed one time only. DVD's and items with holds may not be renewed. When you call you will need to have either your library card or the books in front of you so we can get the barcodes of the items needing to be renewed. THANK YOU !

We do accept food for the Wrentham Food Pantry for overdue fees. However, The Board of Trustees has voted to limit the amount of food that can be used to pay overdue bills. You may bring in food up to a limit of $5. Food may not be used to cover the cost of lost materials. Remember that you can renew most items online. If you provide us with your email address you will get an automatic reminder three days before the items are due. Ask us if you need help. We would, of course, prefer that you return items promptly – postage and staff time are costly.
